Realscreen: Pernel commissioned for vulture doc

Pernel commissioned to produce hour-long doc special on vultures

Independent factual TV prodco Pernel Media has been commissioned by France Télévisions Group to produce a one-hour wildlife documentary special about vultures.

Meet the Vulture Families will encourage viewers to reconsider the bird’s bad reputation as a scavenger, omen of bad luck and killer of livestock. Instead, the special will argue that this endangered species, which is also the largest bird in Europe, are essential for our ecosystems, as their diet makes them an irreplaceable link in the food chain.

The special is directed by award-winning wildlife photographer Emmanuel Rondeau and shot in Provence, south of France over 12 months. The production will focus on four different species of vulture: the griffon, black, Egyptian and bearded vultures.

Fabrice Frank will executive produce the special for Pernel. It was commissioned by Amandine Picault and Anne Gouraud for France Télévisions Group.

“This important documentary further cements our move into premium natural history programming,” said Pernel Media president Samuel Kissous. “We’re thrilled to be producing this film for France Televisions and also to have our new International Executive Producer, Celine Payot Lehmann as part of the team and working with our international partners on this unique project.”
